NEW VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AT WHALE
We have regular volunteer shifts for individuals who can provide front desk and office support at WHALE.
You don’t need experience working with children or individuals with disabilities for these roles. What we need most are dependable, welcoming people who are willing to lend a hand.
Volunteers may help with:
Welcoming families and visitors at the door
Answering the phone and taking messages
Assisting with basic office and administrative tasks
Helping with organization and materials
Warming lunches or helping with other simple center needs
Providing an extra set of hands wherever needed

Regular volunteer opportunities will be available:
Monday–Friday | 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

We’ll also have special event volunteer opportunities on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year for people who would rather help occasionally at WHALE community events.

Types of Volunteers
Center Volunteers - Office & Administrative Assistance
Scan and upload documents into our electronic records system.
Organize and maintain files and paperwork.
Assist with basic office tasks and administrative projects.
Prepare materials, packets, and supplies for programs and events.
Help keep office and program materials organized.
Center Volunteers - Respite Support
Assist staff during respite programming and activities.
Engage with children and young adults through games, crafts, activities, and social opportunities.
Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
Assist with setting up and cleaning up activities.
Support staff with respite program needs.
Event Volunteers
Assist with setup and cleanup.
Help welcome and check in families and participants.
Assist with activities, games, crafts, and special events.
Help distribute information and resources.
Provide general support to WHALE staff and families throughout events.
Volunteer Expectations & Requirements
To protect the children and families we serve, volunteers must adhere to the applicable federal and state rules and regulations outlined in the handbook.
All volunteers must:
Demonstrate knowledgeable decision-making, judgment, and concern for the proper care and well-being of children.
Never consume or be under the influence of any substance that impairs their ability to care for children.
Refrain from personal use of electronics while caring for children.
Follow all hygiene, sanitation, supervision, and safety policies.
Never be left alone with a child for any reason.
Complete required criminal background checks prior to working with children.
